I recall way back in 1999, flipping through the channels on the television, and all of a sudden something caught my eye. What I saw was a necklace floating in the air, with a blond hair woman hypnotized by it, and a witch with a doll entering the next scene. Little did I know that this was my first glance into the only soap opera I would ever enjoy with a passion. Ironic, since the name of the show is called Passions.

For the next few years, I watched the show and fell in love with the characters- especially the magical theme. My favorite part by far was when Julian and Timmy went on a trip down the yellow brick road. There was something special about the show, even if the Zombie Charity storyline seemed to drag on forever. I liked the characters Grace and Ivy as well. Than of course there was Sheridan and Whitney, two of my favorite woman characters ever in a soap opera series.

The lyrics to the theme song was always stuck in my mind “I would hold the hand of the one who could lead me places…” and I found it hilarious when Gwen, Theresa, and Ethan sang the song in the show! I was laughing so hard, and it brought a huge smile to my face.
When I got xbox live in 2004, I seldom watched television, and so I did not watch Passions very much- and also because I had school at that time. I never did forget about the show though. Once in awhile I would turn the channel to NBC, and watch the show. My brother commented on the horrible acting by the actors, but it did not bother me- nor did I notice it much. I was very sad when I heard the actor who played Timmy (Josh Ryan Evans) passed away of heart problems. It was also sad hearing that Alice Ghostley who played Matilda Matthews passed away as well due to colon cancer. She was probably best know as Esmerelda in the classic television show Bewitched.
Recently the show Passions moved to Direct TV, and I was in shock. The actress who played Whitney (Brook Kerr) left the show around the same time. It seems the show was not getting high enough ratings. This is what I despise about television. If a show you love is not doing so well in the ratings its a high possibility of being taken off the air, or the series ending. Some of my favorite shows no longer air, like Charmed and X-Files for example. It seems that reality shows are what is popular these days and it just makes me sad that wonderful shows have to be cast away for other programs.
The theme song “Breathe” made famous by Passions.
I really hope Passions can recover, and spring back so we can all watch the show once again without paying for Direct TV. Life certainly has its ups and downs, and Passions has been there along with me during my own path to finding my own yellow brick road.
Have you ever watched Passions? I heard rumors that it was even going off of Direct TV.. which means that will be the end… very sad indeed.
