Hi. Welcome to another monthly flashback, where we take a look back at the month in Silvercublogger. March was a pretty decent month. There was two major video game releases - Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

I am continuing to make videos on my YouTube channel, and they seem to be growing in popularity. But enough blabbing, let’s start the flashback.

Flashback

Synopsis: I began this month announcing that I started to make videos on YouTube, which has become a fun project to do in my free time. I wrote a review on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which received over 500 hits to date.

Bungie announced three new maps were going to be available on Halo 3 - and what a happy surprise to see Sidewinder and Lockout return! I downloaded two PC games, Dance! Online, and Mabinogi - neither of which seems to hold my interest for very long - probably because I prefer playing on consoles.

Masterkitty watches as her friends get the hottest laser treatment available.

That’s not blood.. it’s Kool-Aid! Yummy : )

Mabinogi

March 28, 2008

Mabi-what? Yes, its a video game. MMORPG to be exact, similar to the likes of World of Warcraft, but so much more.

Mabinogi is a Fantasy MMORPG – commercially. Already a hit in Asia, with over seven million registered players.

While upgrades and expansions will be available to purchase, Mabinogi will be a free-to-play MMO title.Players aren’t forced to simply battle or go on quests. The player can go to school, get a job, learn instruments, fish and hunt, cook and even throw parties for friends. All of these aspects complement the battle system and adventure portions of the game.

The game launched yesterday in America, and I decided to try it out. I spent a few hours in the game, and it is quite enjoyable. I don’t believe I will get an addiction to it like many do on WoW - simply because these kinds of games were never my favorite genre.

These games take awhile to figure out… however, the cute graphics are an added plus. ^_^

Interested? Then click here and try the game out. Did I mention its free?

Welcome to another addition of Blog Banter, which involves Hawty McBloggy’s cozy community of enthusiastic gaming bloggers, a common topic, and a week to post articles pertaining to said topic. The results are quite entertaining and can range from deep insight to ROFLMAO.

This month’s topic is:

What, in your opinion, is the biggest stereotype about gamers? Do you fit it or not?

What is a “Gamer” anyways? Dictionary.com defines it as “a person who plays games.” So technically speaking, many people are gamers. You don’t need to own a video game console to be one. I never really knew there was a stereotype for them. Usually the most common thing is that they might be fat and/or ugly. Maybe only those that play World of Warcraft are.

Seriously speaking, for the educated individuals, we know that gamers are people. People are from all different kinds of backgrounds.. and body sizes for that matter. You can’t really stereotype “gamers”. Some might be laid-back, while another might be very competitive. Either way, all gamers possess unique qualities that make them special.

Perhaps in the olden days, it was thought that gamers were nerdy.. but times have changed, and the era we now live in is that video games are a “cool factor”, thanks to games like Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution which helped bring gaming to a whole new level.

Do I fit the gamer stereotype? Well I am not fat (I only weigh 138), ugly, or nerdy… so I suppose not. I don’t really know any gamer that is any of those. Maybe then the real target is female gamers. Perhaps then I might have something to say about them.. but I don’t. They have every right to game as much as men do - if not more. No one should degrade them for playing games. It’s arrogant and ignorant.

What it really all comes down to is the old saying “the masses are asses.” Meaning stereotypes get created thanks to the wonderful people out there who are missing a few “light bulbs”. Bottom line is, who cares what other people think? Don’t let anyone stereotype you, and if they categorize you that way, prove them wrong - or better yet, don’t even waste your (gaming) time on such childish trifles. : )

Quote of the Week [#15]

“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: You don’t give up.”

The HappyCube [#4]

March 25, 2008

Hello! Welcome to another installment of The HappyCube.

Last time Happy and I discussed about creating a superhero.

For this edition, the quirky topic suggested was:

“If you could marry any video game character, who would it be, and why?”

Well for this big “what if” I suppose it would be Rinoa from Final Final Fantasy VIII.

Why Rinoa? Well besides the fact she looks beautiful, she is a very genuine character, and has a great personality. I played FF VIII for over 200 hours, so I got a bit of an emotional attachment to her, plus her dog is adorable.
I think what makes her the ideal wife is beause we both are very passionate, emotional people who will fight and never give up. Its always great to marry a woman with confidence, and she has tons of it. Plus, for an even bigger treat, it would be awesome to visit Balamb Garden too.
Anyways, that’s my little “fantasy” [see what I did there?] To see what Happy had to write about this topic, please click here.
