Song of the Week [#5]

March 11, 2008

The last time I wrote an article for this was awhile back in February,

so it is time for another song… this week’s is:

Enya - May It Be [Trance Remix]

I have no clue who remixed it, but it certainly is an awesome song. What do you think?

Since it is a few days before Purim, a hebrew holiday that celebrates the day Mordechai and Esther foiled the plot of evil Haman to destroy the Jewish people, I thought it would be cool to show one of the yummy treats we eat on Purim.

Hamantashen are cookies, filled with something inside. From apricot to prune fillings, anything is possible. There are a variety of recipes to choose from, and most are quite delicious. I personally like them soft, with the dough to have a delicious taste - which means you add a tiny bit of orange juice to the mix. Its gotta be a little sweet too.

It is also customary to hand out Mishloach Manot [Food Presents] to others. Many times they will include wine or beer in it, and If I receive any I either throw it out or give it to my parents. For some reason you are supposed to get drunk on this holiday, but I will pass on that. I know you are supposed to be happy.. but I can do that without the alcohol.

Anyways, in synagogue (temple), we read the Megillah [The story of Mordechai and Esther] and how they stopped Haman’s evil plan. Every time Haman is mentioned, we say boo! Or do something.. like stamp your feet. To me, I always found this stuff odd and never felt really comfortable doing this… Nevertheless, the Hamantashen are always tasty : )
