Hi! Welcome to another monthly flashback, where we take a look back at the month.

Flashback

Synopsis: Once again, October was a very busy month for me. During the first week, I was in Ohio for my nephew’s Bar Mitzvah. It went pretty smoothly. We had tons of hebrew holidays this month, which gave me some time to read my college textbooks. As soon as college started again, I was back on my feet, trying to keep up with everything. Being the Editor-in-Chief of our college newspaper is a lot of work.

As for new games I purchased this month, the only new game I got was DDR Universe 3, which I have yet to write a review for as I am waiting for Konami to fix the many glitches. As of now, I would give it a 6. Hopefully Konami will fix the problems.

I also purchased Scene It? LCA and N3, two old 360 games. I have been playing a lot of Karaoke Revolution: AI Encore, very excited about the sequel coming out in a few weeks. One thing I finally got around to doing was to sign up for Twitter, an instant update messaging site, follow me here.

There was also a huge Xbox Ambassador Halo 3 event which I hosted. It took place on October 26th. We played a variety of custom games – you can find many pictures of the event right here. [Available only until December 1st.]

Song of the Week [#22]

October 30, 2008

This week’s song is featured in DDR Universe 3. Possibly my favorite song in the whole game, I just love the mix of sounds and lyrics in this song.

Take a listen, it won’t hurt ya!

Foxxie – Don’t Don’t Go Away (Ricardo Autobahn Remix)

P.S. – I have yet to write a review for DDR Universe 3, because I am waiting until Konami looks into the various glitches, and enables the weekly online mode.

I had vacation the last three weeks [if you want to call it that.. it was just hebrew holidays].

I started college again on Monday, and I have so much work to do. Now that I am Editor-in-Chief of our college newspaper, I have to spend much more time – which I don’t mind – as I love it, but it just makes me a wee bit stressed.

Secondly, I have a huge Spanish Exam on Wednesday and I am scared. I don’t really know if I’m ready as our classes have not been too good in detail. There’s a lot of info I need to remember. I’m pretty good with vocabulary, but changing the words when using them for female/male plus er, ar, and ir infinite verbs plus nouns is confusing, except for “yo soy” which I understand a bit.

I am having a hard time with the Proprietary Databases for my Computer Research class… hope to resolve them on Wednesday.

Psych Club elections are running – I’ll be campaigning for Secretary once again. I’m good at doing that. No thanks for Treasurer, President, or VP. I have enough on my plate, lol! Have $60 saved from last year’s Psych Club…

What else? Well, looks like I may after all be having a 6th class in college. Originally sort-of canceled, Management class now has now been brought back as Independent Study. Have meeting with Professor on Wednesday about this as well. Wow, everything is on Wednesday.. today is just homework, homework, stress. Homework, study, study, relax, eat. Shop at Wal-mart and K-mart (trying to find glasses as I now need them as I have a stygmatism [how do you spell that?] plus I’m near-sighted – went to eye doctor a few days ago).

I’m also trying to figure out what Konami is up to with DDR Universe 3.. there is quite a few glitches in the game.. will post a separate article about this maybe tomorrow.

Look for that as well as a monthly flashback October 31st. That’s all for the rest of this month, I believe. Thanks for checking out my blog : )

Picture of the Week [#30]

October 25, 2008

This edition of Blog Banter asks:

Are there any video games that possess a timeless appeal? Games that, despite constant advances in technology, retain a game engine or narrative that will forever be relevant. If so, why?

Interesting question – considering video games have not been around very long. It’s a difficult question to answer as I can’t quite see where the video game industry will be in 20 years. Of course Pong, Pac-Man, and Mario have solidified their bench spot in timeless appeal – but to many that is not the case.

One of the great genres that will always be appealing is the music-rhythm genre. Games like DDR and Karaoke Revolution have a foundation that will always be fun to play regardless if it’s 2008 or 2028. But if there’s one thing I know that will be around, it’s the classic board and card games we all know and love that are turned into video games.

So while many RPG’s will have aged [as many have already], games like Uno and Chess will always have appeal. So that’s why my pick will be: Lost Cities.

It began as a strategic card game, and was then transformed into a video game for Xbox Live Arcade. According to my 360voiceblog, I have played over 50 hours of this game – and for good reason.

It’s a fun game that’s pretty simple to learn, but hard to master. It involves going on “adventures”, taking a leap of faith on a chance you will do well, by obtaining numerical cards [the higher the better].

The game is also 4 players online, which is really cool as two players team up against two other players. It’s a game that has been around for a very long time, and will continue to be played both in its card form and in video game form for eternity – and of course when I’m a snappy senior citizen. In the end, there will always be some games that may have aged terribly, but there’s always a chance you will uncover a lost gem and begin playing it as if it was just released.
