Movie Spotlight: Valkyrie
I had the chance to see this movie on Saturday night in theaters. It’s a dark and dreary adventure based on a true story of an attempt to kill Hitler.
Tom Cruise acts well in this political thriller that never quite manages to build up until the last half hour. It’s nice to know that some people in the Nazi party opposed Hitler as leader – and it was interesting to know that 15 attempts were made to kill him, but this movie fails in leaving the viewers with a more emotional impact as The Boy In The Striped Pajamas.
The story could have been directed in a variety of ways, and I’m not quite sure the route used here was the best format. After the video was over, I wondered what I gained from watching the movie.
It’s an interesting historical piece, and it does create the enviroments quite nicely, but there’s something missing that leaves this film from reaching masterpiece status. Overall, it’s neither an amazing movie or a boring one, but I like it when movies leave me thinking and asking questions.. and this one hardly did.
