Is It A Best Buy For @Gamer Magazine?
There’s a new gaming magazine, and this one is exclusively at Best Buy with tons of coupons inside. I remember back in the day Gamepro used to have Best Buy coupons inside many of the issues, and I thought Best Buy should have their own gaming magazine.
Well many years later, looks like my wish came true, but right now it’s too early to tell if it’s a magazine that I will subscribe too. The subscription prices are one year (10 issues) for $19.99, and two year (20 issues) for $39.98. These prices are not so bad, but in an era where I now subscribe to Gamefly, a game rental service, and am also cutting back on magazine subscriptions, is @Gamer a little too late?
There might be room for it to live — but it might have better potential as a $5 or $10 subscription as an e-newsletter with coupons you can print out. The $19.99 subscription is just a little to steep for me at the moment, and the coupons available in the first issue are not too appealing for me. The coupons for the premiere issue are discounts on the following games: Halo 3 ODST: $20 (Xbox 360), Bioshock 2: $20 (Xbox 360, PS3 & PC), Skate 3: $20 (Xbox 360 & PS3), Tiger Woods 11: $20 (Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii), 2010 FIFA World Cup: $20 (Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii), Prince of Persia – The Forgotten Sands: $15 (Xbox 360 & PS3), Just Dance: $15 (Wii), and Assassin’s Creed II: $15 (PC).
As much as I love Best Buy and enjoy being a part of the Gamers Club, right now @Gamer Magazine might draw me in once in awhile to a single issue if the coupons inside are more appealing to me. But in a world drenched with so many gaming media outlets, @Gamer will have to do a lot to succeed. If you think about it, just one $20 coupon you might use from the magazine would already cover the subscription cost — but if there’s no coupons you want to use, you’re out of luck. If the magazine were to have a $20 coupon off any video game, I’d be an instant subscriber! Let’s hope that happens. Subscribe here if you like or visit your local Best Buy to check out a copy.
